Index of Subjects Eleanor, I believe that many magnolias are pollinated by beetles and this may be a reaction to a delay in the flowering those years. I'm not sure if the damaged buds would be well enough developed to be of benefit to the boring beetle. This is just a guess. Ken MacAulay Port Mouton, NS
