May 31, 2007 - ROBIE TUFTS NATURE CENTRE AT DUSK: 50+ TOTAL CHIMNEY SWIFTS
seen -- tonight there was a sizable crowd of gawkers for the pre-roosting
swifts, not just people doing business at the liquor store -- the majority
of the swifts entered the chimney a bit after 9:00 p.m. (Sunset 8:52) -- Ted
Wolkowski, Brenda & Bill Thexton, Harold Forsyth, Jim Wolford, et al. An
immature? BALD EAGLE flew over quite high in the sky at about 9 p.m., headed
southwest, perhaps on its way quite late to a communal roost in the
Gaspereau Valley upstream (west) from White Rock. Among the observers was a
couple from England, where they had read about our Wolfville swifts on the
Internet; and last nightıs gawkers included a couple from Wisconsin.
DETAILS: observations from 8:35 to 9:30 p.m. (Sunset 8:52) -- 42 swifts
entered chimney at 9:04 to 9:07, 5 more at 9:10, 2 at 9:19, 1 at 9:24 --
broken overcast, steady breeze from east, 15 C.

June 1, 2007 - ROBIE TUFTS NATURE CENTRE AT DUSK: 46+ TOTAL CHIMNEY SWIFTS
counted as they entered chimney, by Ted Wolkowski, Jim Wolford, et al. -- a
MERLIN flew by from north to south before the swifts were gathering (TW) --
observations from 7:35 to 9:25 p.m. (Sunset 8:53) -- 5 swifts entered
chimney at 8:48, 1 more at 8:50, 36+ at 9:00, and 4 at 9:05 -- low overcast,
scattered light showers, slight wind from SW, 14 C. (wind so slight that
again I could HEAR the swifts).

Cheers :-) from Jim in Wolfville, 542-9204
