Today I checked out a power line cut running parallel to the Aylesford Lake Road, Kings Co. Last summer I found this cut & several like it to be extremely good for birds (edge effect) & other creatures, butterflies, dragonflies, etc. A brief jaunt late this morning found: - many Juvenal's Cloudywings & Spring Azures - a number of a Clear-winged Moth feeding mainly on wild strawberry flowers. (Got lousy pics and will try to figure out the identification). - three species of dragonflies, one of which went unidentified. - 1 damselfly which fluttered by weakly and promptly disappeared. - lots of bird song plus a pair of Red-tailed Hawks hollering indicating they will likely nest nearby as last summer. Here is a pic of possibly a Maine Snaketail (Hopefully Derek B. will confirm or correct me). This is a small dragonfly. http://www.flickr.com/photos/58321572@N00/524173351/ Here is a pic of an Emerald, possibly Kennedy's but that's quite rare here so likely not (Derek ??). http://www.flickr.com/photos/58321572@N00/524120578/ And finally a pic of a creature that many gardeners are dreading, the Asiatic Lily Beetle, a sharp looking beetle. This was featured on Live at 5 today. http://www.flickr.com/photos/58321572@N00/524120644/ Angus
