Dear All, May 27, 2007
At Palmeter Woods today, no Black Flies, Nemopanthus (False Holly)
in full bloom being worked by small bees [the long slender peduncle can
not support the weight of even a small bee so feeding is quite
acrobatic], many Mustard White (don't recall if Angus has mentioned
there here), lots of bluish black spider wasps including one lugging a
large spider, mostly by walking backward, and a fair number of a
browinsh Tiger Beetles [Cicindela tranquebarica ].

I managed to catch one of these TBs and brought it home to be sure
of ID. It seemed quite groggy after the ride home in the vial and rested
on my hand for several minutes while I offered water on a splinter &
warmed the TB in the sun; stunning glints of red, bronze and yellow when
sunlight hits hairs at an angle so I was tempted to dig out the
camcorder. But about the time I got the battery half way in it took off
from Alison's hand.
