It's true that Acmaeodera pulchella (Herbst) is large and yellow/
orange & black in coloration, but there are a number of factors that
rule it out. The pattern of maculation, and overall body shape of A.
pulchella is quite different. See:

http://bugguide.net/node/view/4422

For a good photo. Sexton beetles have much larger and stouter legs, a
different shaped pronotum, an addomen that projects beyond the end of
the elytra, and prominently clubbed, lamelliforme, antennae, quite
different in all these regards from buprestids.

Also in Canada, A. pulchella isn't found east of Ontario and in the
USA doesn't make it north of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, so it
doesn't reach Atlantic Canada at all. Sexton beetles are frequently
active at night and are frequently attracted to lights, so they do
show up around people's homes - even when there is no carrion to be
found!

All the best,

Chris
