With the promise of light winds on the Bay yesterday, I travelled to
Port George in the afternoon to catch the rising high tide. It
started off well enough with 18 Harlequins at Cottage Cove.
Unfortunately with a long lens I was unable to frame all of them
together. A few others were noted elsewhere.

Other than that the only other highlight was a Razorbill which flew a
long distance from east to west.

Other waterbirds:
- 100+ Common Eiders
- possibly 200 or more scoters.Outside of a few Black Scoters the
only others I could identify were Surfs. Oddly no White-winged,
usually the most common scoter here.
- 5+ Red-breasted Mergansers
- 15+ Long-tailed Ducks
- 6 Black Ducks which flew from the land and landed in the midst of
eiders. The latter did not seem amused!!

Although the water was relatively calm, most birds were at a distance
and thus difficult/impossible to identify even with a scope.

There were many draggers at work. Since there were no gulls following
the boats, I presume they were scallop dragging but is the season open yet??

Angus
