This is the email message that was sent to some of us by Tonya Wimmer, =
Marine Animal Rescue Society (MARS)

Hi everyone, pictures were sent to the stranding network (MARS) via =
DFO...it was not a sperm whale calf but rather a minke whale. There had =
been one reported sighted in the river back in November 2006 but we lost =
track of it.

Subject: [NatureNS] dead whale in Annapolis River

(from Saturday's edition of The Chronicle Her=3Dld)

  My question:
Has the species ID been confirmed? Unusual, an off-shore whale =
species in a tidal estuary...

Officials find dead whale in Annapolis River after spring thaw

  By THE CANADIAN PRESS=20
BRIDGETOWN _ Officials here found a dead whale this week in the =
Annapolis River with the arrival of the spring thaw.

Bridgetown mayor Art Marshall says officials suspect it could be the =
same whale that was spotted a couple of times in the river last fall.

They think it was a sperm whale calf that weighed between one and two =
tonnes.

He says firefighters used their zodiac to pull the whale to an area =
where it was loaded on a truck.

It was then taken away an buried.

It's not the first time a whale has made it through the tidal power =
plant in Annapolis Royal and into the river, but officials believe it's =
the first one that didn't make it back out.
