Yesterday morning finally seemed like an excellent time to visit Port George - it was low tide, the wind was forecast for calm levels and the snow was not supposed to start until the afternoon. So I showed up at 9:45 and had about 10 minutes before a massive snow flurry sent me fleeing. I should know by now not to believe weather forecasts for the Bay of Fundy! I met Ian Roseby as I was battling the snow trying to see the harlequin just before leaving - we peered together for a few minutes and then gave up. So whatever I saw is probably only a fraction of what is about, but who knows? 12 seals were on the reef when I could see it, 2 of them Greys. Horned Grebes - 6 Common Eiders - 39 Red Throated Loons - 8 Common Loons - 8 Surf Scoters - 3 White Winged Scoters - 4 Red Breasted Mergansers - 3 Red necked Grebes - 5 Long tailed Ducks - 8 harlequin Ducks - 9 We also spotted a DC Cormorant at Margaretville during a brief stop-over there. There may have been Alcids but those brownish fuzzy blobs are hard to see with snow on your lenses. John Belbin - Kingston
