Hi Jamie & All, Mar 2, 2007
For starters there is a much used trail from the bridge at White
Rock up the Gaspereau along the north side. I suspect it started as a
sled/wagon road to service a slate quarry.

At one time, sled roads radiated out from Sunken Lake like spokes of
a wheel; some are still intact, some grown in but useable (probably)
with detours, some converted to private roads and some obliterated by
porter logging. One good one used to run from the lake to Highway 12,
within a mile or so of the River in most places, but now has a section
east of the Salmontail obliterated by logging rubble. An interesting
side trail of this runs north to 'The Little River Falls' and then to
the Gaspereau River. One that ran south to Little River Lake is now a
cottage road but still an interesting walk. One goes to Little River
Lake canal almost parallel to the previous (the Sunken Lake end is now a
truck logging road but at some point becomes a sled road again, perhaps
before it crosses a meadow) and then runs along the canal to Highway 12.
One goes to Moosehorn lake with a left branch that circles back parallel
to the Sunken Lake road. One went from the west middle of Sunken Lake N
& NW to within earshot of the River.

And so on-- I don't want to bore those from other parts with more
King's County details, but if the above type of hiking sounds
interesting, then feel free to drop by the house sometime with
topographic maps (678-7824; 16 Overlook Rd., Kentville).
Yours truly, Dave Webster, Kentville
