Hi there, Thank you to those who have contributed bird sightings and updates to NatureNS or the NS-RBA, or sent them to me privately. I have compiled a consolidated list of species reportedly seen in February, the "depths of winter", in Nova Scotia this year. As expected, species diversity declined from the beginning of the winter, when there were still many vagrants and lingering migrants around. The total list of species seen in Nova Scotia this winter (1 December to 28 February) compiled by Blake Maybank at http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/maybank/other/nswinter was an impressive 204 species; 151 species, or almost 75%, were still present in the past month. This is a similar ratio to the reports from Manitoba, where 101 species were seen this winter, and 72 species during the month of February. I was curious to see how we would compare; thanks for indulging my curiosity. Cheers, Patricia L. Chalmers Halifax Nova Scotia Depths of Winter List 2007 (i.e. the month of February) 1 ...
