Index of Subjects Hi Bob, Welcome back to the list! Orioles can't make it through winter here on oranges alone. In fact, the one I helped overwinter wouldn't touch oranges in midwinter! I find that most of the birds that are North of their normal winter range have a greater than normal need for high fat and protein diets and sugar. This means suet, peanut butter, mealworms on occasion, and jelly (Grape jelly for Orioles), as well as black oil sunflower seeds (preferably hulled, as many of them don't have the right beaks for easily opening the hulled seed, and they need to eat a LOT to get them through the cold). I'm no expert, this is just from my experience and the reading I did to help my little female survive the winter. Lois Codling
