Hi All; We've had some recent updates to the winter list. Tufted Duck in Pictou Co. Short-eared Owl in Pictou Co. N. Saw-whet Owl in Pictou Co. Common Redpoll in Pictou Co. Field Sparrow Harris's Sparrow in Lunenburg Co. Gray Catbirds (two reported) These bring the total to 197 for the winter, just above our long-term average of 194, and within striking distance of 200. There are a couple of species that were reported every winter since I started keeping track a decade ago, but have yet to be reported this winter: Long-eared Owl and Gray Partridge. Other species are still possible. The following are reported most winters, and should be looked for: King Eider; Thayer's Gull; Gyrfalcon; Sharp-tailed Sparrow; and Rusty Blackbird. The Winter Bird Page is: http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/maybank/other/nswinter.htm If you have any personal totals to report, please pass them along to me. All the best, ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blake Maybank Editor, "Nova Scotia Birds" author, "Birding Sites of Nova Scotia" http://maybank.tripod.com/BSNS.htm 144 Bayview Drive White's Lake, Nova Scotia, B3T 1Z1, Canada maybank@ns.sympatico.ca (902) 852-2077 -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
