For at least the last couple of days there has been an influx of flycatchers
around my home, mostly in the area of Walker Brook. Possibly this gathering
is a preliminary to migration. We have had Eastern Phoebes, Alder
Flycatchers, Eastern Wood Peewees and several Olive Sided Flycatchers. One
Olive sided sent me scurrying for the books - it was a scruffy looking
individual with a distinct white rump. When I discovered that it was
probably a first year immature, that made sense.

We also have a very large number of quite vocal White Breasted Nuthatch and
Purple Finch, with immatures quite apparent among the latter also. Humming
Birds are still extremely active and combative. A G.B. Heron seems to roost
in the brook near my house every night, it's quite a sight when it flies low
over the lawn.
