Hi All Yesterday I spent on the river with an angler. We paddled and waded. His job was to fish, mine to supply the power, tell him where the fish were and how to get home when the time came. I noted a few interesting things. Groundnut, Apios americana - we saw a large colony of this plant in full flower covering a bunch of riverside shrubs. Very showy as the flowers were very plentiful. Otter Slide - My friend saw something black slide down a bank - I was looking for other things at the time and missed it. When we went over we found a 3 m slide down a sandy bank. Wet spots along the slide. Lots of mussel shells in piles not far away so it was probably an Otter. Brook Trout - we admired a 35 cm brook trout in its beautiful fall colors. Reddish all over with the white on the fins very showy. How folks could kill something like that is one of lifes mysteries. You can be sure we released it very gently back into the river. No "Throwing it back" for me! Nighthawks came out in numbers just at dusk. Most this year by a lot - the flew right past our faces. Then the bats came out and the moon. It was time to go. On the way home when we saw a shooting star. All visiting anglers to Nova Scotia should have such a day. Enjoy late summer Paul __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
