Sullivans Pond has trouble holding its water

An event of biblical proportions?

Not likely.

An African-style drought?

No.

An act of sabotage by some resourceful waterfowl?

Hardly.

The water level in Sullivans Pond in Dartmouth mysteriously dropped
recently because the pond sprung a leak, the local councillor said
Wednesday.

Coun. Gloria McCluskey (Dartmouth Centre) said the leak at the small
artificial lake was plugged Tuesday. She said she learned about the
problem after returning to metro from a trip to Edmonton and Regina.

"I got an e-mail while I was away saying that the pond was empty," said
Ms. McCluskey, who acknowledged she'd never heard of Sullivans Pond
being unable to hold its water.

Sullivans Pond was built in the 19th century as a holding basin during
the construction of the Shubenacadie Canal.
