I walked Martinique Beach this morning unfortunately hitting high tide right upon the nose. There were thousands of shorebirds, mostly Semipalmated Plovers and Least Sandpipers with a few Semipalmated Sandpipers, Sanderlings and Whimbrels mixed in. It would take some patience and a fine scope to sort through this melee for rarities. The Least Sandpipers are at the eastern end of the beach as per usual in the kelp heaps at the high tide line. The Piping Plovers would appear to be all gone. I've posted 6 photos of this event.

Yesterday evening at about 9:30 PM I snapped a photo of the full moon as it cleared the power lines over Portuguese Cove. Also yesterday on a saunter to Pennant Point, HRM, I happened upon 30 Whimbrels. This flighty bird was all the more so thanks to a large marauding female Northern Harrier. Sundew was working the trail side, one photo.

Earlier in the week Laurel Sphinx visited our Portuguese Cove honeysuckle vine again. Some of these guys were hummingbird sized but I only have three photos of smaller ones to show.

To finish off the set there are three dragonfly photos.

Hans
