Our 2002 Bursary Recipient was Alison Beaton
- a fourth year Physiotherapy student at Dalhousie University.
Twenty-two year old Alison Beaton of Mabou says receiving the bursary in her
final year is perfect timing. Beaton spent last summer in South Africa getting practical work experience.
When she graduates in May, she hopes to practice in the Yukon, Northwest Territories
or Northern Alberta. She believes by working in a general hospital in a small
community she will receive a broader base of experience and hopes to be able to
participate in community outreach programs. |
Bursary Committee Chair Deborah Stover says the bursary was established by the
Network to show support and encouragement for women striving to achieve their
educational goals. "I think is it is important that women support and care for
other women. Women are notoriously known as care givers, but we often forget to
look after ourselves and help each other."

Kristin was awarded the second HWN bursary on October 10,
