THE
PLANETARY CONCERNS
or ONE EARTH
"One
earth" is the rallying principle behind the
Planetary Concerns group. The group is a reflection
of the perception of an increasing number of UUCH
members that global warming demands immediate and
decisive action, both individual and collective.
We are
persuaded that religious organisations have a
particular and significant role to play as
communities. The group meets on the second Sunday of
each month from 12 noon to 1pm in the Green Room on
5500 Inglis Street, Halifax.
THE
HUMANISTS GROUP
The
humanist group meets for an hour, and sometimes more,
at noon on the third Sunday of the month in the
Worship Room on 5500 Inglis Street, Halifax.
In a
religious context most of us would define ourselves
as agnostics but, in general, we all accept the
definition of the World Humanist Congress that
humanism is ethical, rational, supports democracy and
human rights, insists that personal liberty must be
combined with social responsibility; values
creativity and is an alternative to dogmatic
religion. Humanism offers an ethical and rational
means of addressing the challenges of our times.
We
come from many different personal and professional
backgrounds. The topics of our discussions vary
widely but always start from a point of rational
investigation. At each meeting we decide on the topic
for the next session. There is no
"chairperson". We take turns leading the
discussion. Everyone is welcome.
UU
CHURCH CHOIR
Our
church choir, The Chalice Singers, is open to
everyone. Our Conductor, Deborah Wiggins, has a
passion for community building through music. Deborah
has a breadth of experience as a singer, children's
choral director, music teacher/instructor, and
accompanist. The choir is open to all UUs and their
non-UU friends. Our repertoire includes classsical,
pop, jazz, spirituals and just about any song that
moves your soul or sets your feet tapping. There are
regular weekly rehearsals on Thursday evenings from
7:15 to 9:00 pm in the UU Church Worship Room on 5500
Inglis Street, Halifax.
THE
AFTERCHOIR
The
Afterchoir is our "alternative music"
group, drawing on folk music, "soft rock"
and jazz. For information please call the UU Church
of Halifax at (902)-429-5500.
ADULT

these various programs, including "Build Your
Own Theology" we use the curriculums provided by
