PROGRAM ASSISTANT
Clean Nova Scotia

DEADLINE EXTENDED!

Through a partnership with the Atlantic Council for International
Cooperation, Clean Nova Scotia and ABROLANDO would like to fill an
internship position, which focuses on waste reduction and the illegal
burning campaign.

Clean Nova Scotia www.clean.ns.ca is a non-profit environmental education
organization that provides information and resources to the public in order
to help them make positive decisions about the environment. Clean Nova
Scotia’s mission statement is “To actively and co-operatively develop a
sustainable and environmentally healthy society in Nova Scotia.”

The Waste Reduction Centre of Clean Nova Scotia provides waste management
information to students, other youth groups and the general public via
presentations and public event display booths. The Illegal Burning Project
will also work with youth to educate communities on the impacts of illegal
burning (health and environmental) as well as provide community-based
solutions to illegal burning.

ARBOLANDO www.cosett.com.bo/arbolando”is a non-governmental organisation
based in Tarija, Bolivia. ARBOLANDO’s mission statement is “to improve the
conditions and quality of life for the population of the department of
Tarija by contributing to a collaborative process to reverse erosive
processes and the desertification of the soil and to support the ecological
and environmental recovery of the rivers. We achieve this through popular
mobilization and education and the awareness raising of the population.

Job Description:

In Canada Component:

The young professional will be involved with various activities under the
Waste Reduction project, including:

·Assisting the Waste Reduction Centre with their waste management
presentations to students;
·Staffing display booths at public events and providing waste management
information to the general public;
·Researching and developing new presentations focused on waste reduction and
linked to the curriculum;
·Preparing information packages for schools and businesses; and ·Assisting
with the Illegal Burning Project

Overseas Component:

·Raising awareness in garbage reduction, efficiently utilizing waste and
improving nutrition;
·Designing resource materials to encourage recycling, waste management and
waste reduction;
·Working with youth, within the school system, to promote waste management;
and
·Assisting with the illegal burning campaign.

Skill Set/ Qualifications:

CIDA requires the intern:

-Be aged 30 or under;
-Be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant able to work in Canada; -Be
currently under or unemployed;
-Have not previously worked outside Canada in a paid, career-related
position;
-Be a graduate of a college or university; and,
-Have not previously participated in another Internship Program funded by
the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy (YES).

The ideal candidate will have:

·Strong communication skills;
·Fluency in Spanish;
·Experience doing public presentations;
·Be creative, energetic and able to work independently;
·Flexibility in work projects;
·Ability to take initiative;
·Must be able to travel and work weekends;
·Ability to prioritize and effectively handle many demands;
·Flexibility in work and living environments; and
·Previous travel or overseas study experience, especially in Latin America,
would be an asset.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Stipend: $200 per week.

·Other potential training courses as opportunities.

DURATION: 34 weeks – 14 weeks in Canada with Clean Nova Scotia and 20 weeks
in Bolivia with ARBOLANDO.

LOCATION: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and Tirija, Bolivia.
