First Sessions start at 1:30pm Woodland Weed Walk Become acquainted or deepen your friendship with our woodland plants, and learn more of their medicinal properties. Jeanette Poirier has been hanging out with plants, both wild and tame, for over 50 years, and has recently completed her training as a clinical herbal therapist. Herbal Energetics Learn how to build a herbal formula based on the principles of herbal energetics. Explore and compare Ayurveda, and Western holistic medicine as practiced by the 17th century herbalist, Nicholas Culpeper. Savayda Jarone CHT, MNIMH - Medical Herbalist is owner of The Herbal Medicine Clinic and Dispensary in Halifax where she practices holistic medicine based on modern herbalism and the traditional healing systems of Europe and India. ? Second Sessions start at 2:45pm Plant Medicine Walk Together we will walk in the open wild and cultivated spaces, meet and greet the local plants, learn of their healing gifts, and connect with earth medicine using all the senses. Danette Steele, BA, MA, RH, Clinical Herbalist. Danette weaves together traditional wisdom with current science-based research in her teaching and her practice of herbal medicine. Danette teaches the Herbal Foundations course and has a growing clinical practice in both Halifax and Toronto. Herbs for Women's Health We will wander in the beautiful gardens visiting the many plants that aid and support women=92s cycles. Lois Hare, N.D. Lois graduated from the= Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1987. She has had a life long friendship with plant medicine beginning in childhood with her herbalist/midwife Great Aunt Nell. Third Sessions start at 4pm Medicine Making In this workshop you will meet some of the more common plants found in your backyard and watch how they can be transformed into tinctures, vinegars, oils, and ointments. We will make a lip balm together that you can take home with you. Elizabeth Mills and Erica deSousa have been studying and making herbal medicines for many years. Plants at Risk With an increase in the use of herbal medicine comes and increase impact of our wild populations of herbs. Join Cheendana in seeing a video of United Plant Savers, meet a few of the at risk plants, and learn about ethical harvesting. Cheendana (Lorie-Ann Martin MT), a massage therapist and at home herbalist, has been a member of United Plant Saver for several years and has a keen interest in knowing about the impact of herbal medicine on our wild plant populations. HERBAL FAIR LOGISTICS Location/Directions: The HANS Herbal Fair is being held in Harbourville which is close to Berwick, Nova Scotia. From Halifax take Hwy 101 toward the Annapolis Valley. Take exit 15 to Berwick/ Harbourville. (About an hour and 45 minutes from Halifax). Turn right off the ramp and go north toward Harbourville on Hwy 360 for about 11kms. Go straight up over the mountain, down the other side until about a third of a mile from the Bay of Fundy (which you will see) and Harbourville wharf, where you turn right onto Russia Road (last road going right before the ocean). Russia Road is about 5-6 kms long. The site is very near the other end. "Ripples of Inspiration" (it will be marked with a sign) is on the left hand side of the road. There is plenty of parking across the road at the church. Accommodations: There are camping sites and bed and breakfasts available close to the Herb Fair. Forever Green Campsite- 902-680-0061 Bed and Breakfast- phone 538-3977 for more info. It is advisable to book well in advance of event. Meals and Refreshments: Please bring your own food and beverages as well as your own cup, plate and cutlery. Well water and herbal teas will be available on site. We plan to have a shared potluck lunch =96 please bring your salad, finger food or dessert to the registration desk when you arrive. The focus is herbal and vegetarian. You may want to bring a small card with the ingredients listed. Thank you. Closing Circle and Giveaway: There will be a giveaway at the Closing Circle =96 if you wish to participate - please bring something herbal with you to share. Note regarding scents and bug sprays: Please do not wear any artificial scents to this event. Do not wear any DEET products or products with Citronella. There will be many safe and effective herbal bug repellent sprays on site. All participants to the HANS HERB FAIR and AGM must register before attending.
