International Cooperation Organizations to Meet in Debert, Nova Scotia

Knowlesville, NB - April 28, 2004 -- From May 7th to 9th, 2004,
representatives from 40 Atlantic Canadian organisations will gather in
Debert, Nova Scotia to network, discuss current issues in international
development and gain professional development training at the Atlantic
Council for International Cooperation’s (ACIC) Annual General Meeting.

This 3-day event will bring together many of ACIC’s members as well as other
organizations involved in international cooperation to exchange knowledge on
topics like Social Auditing, International Youth Internships, Coalition
Building, Asset Based Community Development, and the Privacy Act.

Invited guests include: Gerry Barr, President-CEO of the Canadian Council
for International Cooperation; Robert Derouin, Director General of the
Voluntary Sector Division, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
and three trade unionists from Columbia, speaking about privatization in the
Columbian context, and its impacts on social, environmental and worker
rights issues.

The events will be held at the Debert Hospitality Centre in Debert, Nova
Scotia.

ACIC is a unique coalition of Atlantic Canadian organizations working on
international development and cooperation issues, working together to
achieve sustainable global development in a peaceful and healthy
environment, with social justice, human dignity, and participation for all.
ACIC supports its members in development and developmental education through
collective leadership, networking, information, training and coordination,
and represents their interests when dealing with government and others. ACIC
has 40 members, including national and grassroots organizations from across
the Atlantic Provinces.
