40 years of public justice AND
Mayann Francis on 'Silence is not always golden'

National public policy group celebrates in Halifax

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - From the Mackenzie Valley pipeline, to the
Constitution,
to student loans for refugees, for 40 years Citizens for Public Justice has
been a faithful
witness on policies that support the common good. On Saturday, March 6,
Citizens for Public
Justice celebrates it's 40th anniversary in Halifax with an address by
Mayann Francis, Director
and CEO of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, called "Silence is not
always
golden." In an age of scandals, and also when implications are dire for
those accused of
security, could anything be more true?

Citizens for Public Justice was founded 40 years ago by Canadian
justice-oriented
Christians who believe that governments and all other institutions have a
responsibility for the
common good. It has a national membership that is active in Nova Scotia. CPJ
undertakes
research, critical analysis, publishing, citizen education and advocacy on
issues of poverty and
child poverty, refugee concerns, Aboriginal rights and faith and public life
among others. It
shares its anniversary with its sister organization, the Public Justice
Resource Centre.

The celebration will take place at Dalhousie Chaplaincy, 1321 Edward Street,
Halifax,
beginning at 7 p.m. There will be a retrospective presentation, a timely
address, poetry, art
and music. Coffee and dessert will be served. All are welcome.
