Piping Plovers, officially listed as an endangered species, are small shorebirds that breed on Nova Scotia's white sandy/cobble beaches - just the kind of beach that humans really like too! Sport and recreation activities, campfires, A.T.V. use, beachcombing, unleashed pets and littering - which attracts natural predators such as crows and gulls - on nesting beaches disrupts the normal behaviour of Piping Plovers and often results in the loss of nests and chicks. To learn why the beach is important to the Piping Plover and how we all can help to ensure its survival, please join us on the following locations and dates: Sand Hills Provincial Park - May 24, 2003 Martinique Provincial Park - June 7, 2003 Summerville Provincial Park - June 21, 2003 Pomquet Provincial Park - July 12, 2003 Please call (902) 860-1263 or email plover@istar.ca to register, or for more information. Meet at the park entrance at 2:00 pm. Each event is approximately 1.5 hours in length. Rain dates are currently scheduled at the same time on the Saturday following the scheduled event. See you at the beach!
