CELEBRATE BUY NOTHING DAY
Brown-Bag it with the Greens!

Consumerism is killing us.

Canadians in record numbers are suffering from the effects of a passive,
unhealthy lifestyle. We spend more money on our vehicles than we do on
food, and then pay again to join gyms and purchase exercise equipment.
Our poor eating habits lead to obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular
disease ... in one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

It's a crime, and the criminals are those who promote highly-processed
food for high profits instead of healthy foods eaten as nature intended
them to be. They are the automakers telling us to drive the latest SUV.
Industry says we don't have to buy what is advertised.

They're right. We don't.

On Buy Nothing Day, November 29th, people around the world will be saying
"NO!" to all those who are trying to sell us the idea that short-term
profits are better than long-term health for ourselves and the planet we
live on.

The Green Party of Canada would like to encourage all Canadians to stop
and think ... and then just STOP.

It's easy.

Make yourself a healthy brown-bag lunch: wholegrain sandwiches, a salad or
raw vegetables, fruit, yoghurt, water or juice. Take it with you to work
or school instead of buying a meal. Pack enough for two. Share it with a
friend who would otherwise buy an unhealthy fast-food lunch. That way your
friend can "buy nothing", too!

Eat your healthy lunch in a public space, where others can see you. Take
the time to enjoy it. Encourage others to do the same. Then get some free
exercise. Go for a walk. Don't window-shop. Find a bit of green-space to
walk in or just walk down the street.

Small steps CAN make a big difference.

The Green Party of Canada, with members in every region of the country, is
part of a global Green movement motivated by the desire to find global
solutions to global problems. The Green Party of Canada ran candidates in
111 ridings in the 2000 Federal Election. Green Party members have been
elected in Europe, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.
