        Wilderness Committee of the Ecology Action Centre seeks
                   Public Lands Protection Coordinator

Duties: To coordinate the “New Vision for Public Lands” Project, which
seeks to protect more public (crown) lands in Nova Scotia. The
successful applicant(s) will work with members of the Public Lands
Coalition and other community groups to establish protected areas. The
coordinator(s) will work with partners to mount a promotional campaign
to protect these areas and coordinate other outreach work related to
public lands protection (e.g., public education, media, website
updating, public speaking, etc.).  In addition, the coordinator(s) will
work to increase scientific understanding of these areas through
partnerships.  Other duties related to public lands protection as they
arise, as well as fundraising and report writing will be required.

Qualifications:
· Strong understanding of protected areas and forests in Nova Scotia
· Passion for preserving more of Nova Scotia’s natural heritage
· Project management experience
· Personal initiative
· Ability to work effectively with a coalition of community groups,
students, volunteers and the general public
· Confidence and experience working with the media
· Strong writing, presentation and communication skills
· Experience coordinating a public education campaign
· Experience with the Public Lands Coalition an asset
· Fundraising experience preferred
· Competence in Microsoft Word, internet and e-mail
· Ability to track expenses according to a budget and to review monthly
accounts
· Preference will be given to candidates with an undergraduate degree in
environmental studies, biology (with courses in forest ecology or
conservation biology), or other similar field, or relevant experience in
the field.
· Experience working or volunteering for non-profit groups an asset

This position is available full-time for 1 year, with a three-month
probationary period, and potential for renewal for a second year.
Starting date of late October (specific start date to be agreed upon
with successful applicant). Job sharing is also possible.

Salary: $15.70 / hour- 37.5 hour week
