Transportation Issues Committee of the Ecology Action Centre seeks Active and Safe Routes to School Coordinator Duties: To coordinate the Active and Safe Routes to School program of the Ecology Action Centre and the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission. The program aims to increase the number of elementary school students who use active transportation to travel to and from school. The Coordinator will be involved in liaising with parents, teachers and students at individual schools, organizing local participation in International Walk to School Day (October 2), and increasing the profile of the program. In addition, some time may be spent laying the foundations for an active transportation tour around the province. Qualifications: - Knowledge of sustainable and active transportation - Actively engages in sustainable transportation - Strong public speaking and writing skills - Ability to work effectively with parents, teachers, students - Persistent, optimistic approach - Project management experience and ability to work independently - Ability to track expenses according to a budget - Strong organizational skills - Experience working in school system an asset - Experience working or volunteering for a non-profit group an asset - Preference will be given to candidates with a degree and/or relevant experience in the fields of environmental studies, urban and rural planning, teaching or other related fields - Experience with Microsoft Word, internet and email - Driver’s license The position of Active and Safe Routes to School Coordinator is available full-time for 6 months. There is a good chance that the contract would be extended, at which time the nature of the work may alter slightly, including tasks related to organizing a provincial active transportation tour, in addition to coordinating the Active and Safe Routes to School program.
