ANTI-SMOKING BILL PASSES WITHOUT AMENDMENTS
Nova Scotia's anti-smoking law is one step closer to being passed, without
changes.  Tory backbencher, Barry Barnet, is now backing the bill, despite
his wish to see a ban on smoking in all public places.

INSURANCE SOARS FOR HERITAGE PROPERTIES
Staff with the Halifax Regional Municipality are looking into why
insurance companies are refusing coverage and drastically increasing
premiums for some heritage properties. The investigation follows a request
from a woman in Dartmouth who wants her home de-listed because her premium
has quadrupled, to $2,800.

LOGGING TRUCK COLLAPSES BRIDGE
Another bridge has collapsed in Nova Scotia. The Mowatts Hill Bridge in
Colchester County was brought down by a logging truck Tuesday. The span
and truck fell about six meters into a river.

Halifax Regional Council will spend about $58,000 on a study to search for
ways to encourage people to ride bicycles more often.

A Halifax councillor wants the province to ban the use of exotic animals
in circus acts.  Steve Adams says thousands of Nova Scotians have signed a
petition in support of the ban.

COUNCIL OPPOSED TO NEW BURGER KING IN BEDFORD
A Halifax businessman says he's being treated unfairly by the Halifax
Regional Municipality.  Mark Rodd wants to open a Burger King in Bedford's
Mill Cove Plaza.  But last night, council voted not to follow the normal
process to bring the issue to a public meeting.
