CPAWS is a grassroots voice for wilderness. Our active conservation committees are run by volunteers and include: Oceans, focuses on establishment of marine protected areas and promoting the health of the marine environment; Parkwatch is part of a national initiative to monitor and support the ecological integrity of existing protected areas; Terrestrial Habitat Committee focuses on increasing the level of protection of natural areas in Nova Scotia. We need motivated staff to help us develop and grow as a chapter and ensure that nature comes first! TWO POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Chapter Coordinator & Conservation Coordinator. ______________________________________ CPAWS NS Six Month Full Time Position Position: Chapter Coordinator Start Date: mid to late May Salary: $15 000 over 6 months* (before taxes) Hours: 40 hours per week This job will include: - Fund raising, including grant writing proposals - Supporting committees through active campaign involvement and administration - Building CPAWS membership and communicating with existing members - Managing finances - Establishing and running an office - Raising the profile of CPAWS-NS by networking, public relations, writing pamphlets and media releases, etc. - Regular meetings and interaction with the Administrative Committee (Finance, Membership & PR) - Regular meetings and interaction the Board of Directors and attending Executive and Board meetings Qualifications: - Success with fundraising (including grants) and experience managing finances - Experience managing an office, membership, and volunteers - Excellent communication and organizational skills - NGO experience - Knowledge of protected areas and wilderness issues in the Atlantic Region - Current knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and internet software Desirable Assets - Post-secondary degree in a field relating to the environment - Knowledge of and experience with CPAWS and other conservation organizations - Bilingualism - Ability to travel - Current knowledge of accounting and accounting software * The successful candidate will help secure funding to extend the term of the position. - See below for details as to how to apply. ______________________________________ CPAWS NS One year, part-time position Title: Conservation Coordinator Start Date: mid to late May Salary: $15 000 over 1 year (before taxes) Hours: 20 hours per week This job will include: - Working with conservation committees to maintain ecological integrity of existing protected areas and to promote improved wilderness protection - Attending conservation committee meetings - Mobilising the active membership and volunteers around conservation campaigns - Networking with other conservation groups Qualifications: - Motivation for and enthusiasm about wilderness - Excellent understanding of the value of and ecological threats to wilderness and protected areas in Nova Scotia - Experience with environmental organizations - Proven ability to manage and motivate volunteers - Experience speaking at public events and writing letters, policy positions, and articles for public release - Flexible work schedule - Ability to travel Desirable Assets: - Knowledge of CPAWS and other conservation organizations - Post-secondary degree in field relating to the environment - Proven success in environmental campaigns - Some experience writing grant proposals - Bilingualism _____________________________________________________________________ To apply for either position please send a cover letter and resume on recycled paper addressed to: Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society Nova Scotia (CPAWS-NS) 1096 Queen St. Suite 322 Halifax, Nova Scotia B3H 2R9 Fax Attention to CPAWS-NS: (902) 423-2789 Application deadline: Applications must be received at the above address by April 24th, 2002 - 8:00pm Atlantic Time.
