Hey folks, CKDU's annual funding drive begins this Friday, January 28. This marks CKDU's 15th year of broadcasting on the FM band. If you're already a regular listener to the station you will know that, along with CBC 1, CKDU is the leader in current affairs programming in the Halifax region. Amongst the topics that CKDU has covered in the past few months are genetic modification of food, pesticide use, and the ethical and ecological implications of benthic fishing. CKDU actually has a leg up on the Mother Corporation when it comes to focussed programming on environmental issues. One example is the show 'Ecolos' on Monday afternoons - it begins between five and ten minutes past noon, depending on the length of the broadcast from the BBC's World News Service - which is hosted by Paul Shreenan (another Sust-Mar subscriber). CKDU also carries syndicated programs, such as the 'Deep Ecology' series, which are devoted to environmental concerns. If you haven't tuned into CKDU before, you'll want to know that the station broadcasts at 97.5 FM so you can check it out. Regardless of your previous level of familiarity with CKDU, I would urge all of you to support Halifax's only campus/community station, especially during the funding drive week (Jan. 28-Feb. 05). ---Antoni ps.
