In a previous post I said I would be forwarding some local good news.
I am particularly delighted at my local Chester-St. Margaret's candidate,
Hinrich Bitter-Suermann, who has a track record of speaking up for what is
right. He is the former Conservative who voted against their decision
to support the previous budget because he saw it wasn't actually
helping health care. He then joined the NDP.
I have one of his ads here in front of me where he is listing five
main issues locally and two of these are environmental. How refreshing.
His flier talks about Bitter-Suermann having "stood up for:
* Residents working to protect small coves in East St. Margaret's Bay from
careless fish farming operations;
and
* Tough legislation against the indiscriminate use of
pesticides/herbicides in our communities."
I am particularly please to see the latter message because there are a
number of christmass tree growers in his riding and they like to spray.
So Bitter-Suermann is putting it on the line in favor of the environment.
This is the sort of principled stand I look forward to seeing more of.
