WALK FOR A PESTICIDE-FREE PEI Organized by Earth Action and the PEI Holistic Health Co. Are you sickened, angered or saddened by the latest pesticide disaster on PEI? This is the 6th major fish kill on PEI since 1994. All life in the Valleyfield River has been exterminated. Are you worried about the effects of pesticides on you and your family? A few of these effects include cancer, birth defects, disruption of hormone, immune and nervous systems, lowered IQ and reproductive problems. Do you feel humans and other species have the right to not be poisoned by pesticides? Agricultural pesticide use on PEI has increased by more than 500% over the past 15 years. Lawn spray businesses are thriving. PEI lags far behind more progressive areas that have not only strictly controlled the release of pesticides into the environment, but have recognized the need to move toward organic agriculture and lawn care. If we want change to come to PEI, if we envision a PEI that is safe for humans, birds, fish, animals and all living creatures, then each one of us must speak out. Agri-biz and the chemical industry lobby long and hard to keep the present system of industrial agriculture in place. They depend on your silence. Don't let the Valleyfield River tragedy become yesterday's news. Join us on a Walk For A Pesticide-Free PEI to show solidarity for a healthy future for the life and land of PEI. Date: Saturday, July 24 at 2:00 pm Place: meet at the Voluntary Resource Council 81 Prince Street, Charlottetown We'll walk through the streets of downtown Charlottetown, ending at Government House at 2:30 pm. Placards welcome. ******************************** Sharon Labchuk Earth Action 81 Prince Street Charlottetown, PEI C1A 4R3 Phone: 902-368-7337 / 621-0719 Fax: 902-621-0719 slabchuk@isn.net -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- You received this because you are subscribed to "sust-mar", the Sustainable Maritimes mailing list.
