I have been following this flow of information about the NDPs
environmental policy, or lack thereof, with great interest. I then
decided to take it upon myself to ask the other two parties on their
stance on Environmental issues, but more specifically onh public transit.

The Liberal response was far from encouraging. First they asked me why I
wanted to know. I told them because I thought it might be nice if my
children didn't have to wear gas masks to school. They then said that
they were committed to environmental protection. I asked for details.
They spewed out a list that included responsible control of the Sydney Tar
Ponds site. I was not impressed.

The Conservative response was interesting, not just for its content, but
because there was in fact a response. Their plan is short on details, no
argument, but there was a plan, and that impressed me. The plan is
available on their website http://www.pcparty.ns.ca/ . Then I asked abou
the specific issue we have been discussing - public transit. The person I
was talking to on the phone, he even told me his name Liam O'Brien, said
they did not currently have a written policy to that specific concern but
that he would make sure one was developed and committed to by then end of
the day. I gave him my phone number, and low and behold he called back.
His answer was not perfect, but he said , "The PC Party is committed to
public transit, to maintaining the current level of public transit, and to
improving access in rural areas." Not a stellar answer, but better than
what we got from the NDP. About road building he said, "Roads are an
integral part of the province's economy, as is rail, but goods must first
travel on roads before they even get to rail. Therefore while the PC
Party will encourage a revival of rail traffic, which has both economic
and environmental advantages, arterial and secondary roads must first be
improved to facilitate this revival."

I must admit I was impressed by the level of response I got from the PCs.
Until we get a Green Party in Nova Scotia, and seeing as the NDP has sold
out the environment for main stream success, maybe just maybe, the
environmentally minded should look into moving their vote.
