As a representative of Transport 2000 Atlantic, I do want to point out that we are non-partisan politically. Perhaps we have dumped on the NDP because of higher expectations of social and environmental concerns. The P.C. Party in their policy released July 3, enunciates 3 transportation policies: 1. A 10-year highway plan 2. Taxes dedicated to construction and maintenance (doesn't say of what: not likely transit garages or rail lines!) (dedicated taxes are likely better than hidden ones though) 3. A non-partisan road plan (good motherhood, but how about a non-modally-biassed transportation plan instead!) The Liberals have been the most restrained on highway promises, perhaps due to realism of a governing party which has had to cope with the realities of financial restraint and limits on highway building over the past several years. (But if only they could get more highway money from their Liberal cousins in Ottawa??) John Pearce, President, Transport 2000 Atlantic. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- You received this because you are subscribed to "sust-mar", the Sustainable Maritimes mailing list.
