NOVA SCOTIA YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS
Environmental Youth Exchange - Cross Cultural Exchange Program Experience
of a lifetime!

In partnership with Canadian Crossroads International (CCI) and the Government 
of St. Lucia, the Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps (NSYCC) are 
seeking four young Nova Scotians.  In the first two months of the 
program, N.S. participants host their St. Lucian counterparts while 
working together with their St. Lucian partner on NSYCC environmental 
projects within their own communities.  Then the Nova Scotians go to
St. Lucia (Caribbean) and participate in environmental projects there.  

POSITIONS: The 
Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps and Canadian Crossroads 
International are seeking youths aged 21 -24, interested in learning 
more about the environment and improving their leadership skills 

TIME 
FRAME:	Mid June, 1999 - October 31, 1999

RENUMERATION:
*	 expenses to St. Lucia covered by the EYE partners;
*	 modest weekly allowance;
*	 bonus of $750 upon successful completion of the program;  and
*	hosting  allowance for Nova Scotian family hosting a 
	St. Lucian counterpart.

DUTIES:
*	live and work together  with St. Lucian counterpart in Nova Scotia 
	and St. Lucia;
* 	host St. Lucian counterpart in your own community while 
	working as a project worker on environmental projects such 
	as stream enhancement, waste resource management,  
	and environmental education;
* 	travel to St. Lucia to work on environmental projects for two months;
*	submit monthly progress reports, and mid-term and final 
	evaluation forms;
* 	learn about environmental and cross-cultural issues; 
*	attend all briefings and orientation sessions as required 
	by the program;
* 	develop work skills in the environmental sector and gain 
	experience working in an international context; and
* 	agree to participate in all phases of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* 	open and adaptable to a cross-cultural exchange opportunity;
*	committed to assuming a leadership role in improving the environment;
* 	have little or no previous overseas travel or work experience 
	but seeking to embrace a new experience;
* 	a permanent resident of Nova Scotia;
* 	hard working, excellent communication skills, adaptable, 
	motivated, lots of initiative; and 
* 	have a social/family support system committed to hosting the 
	St. Lucian counterpart.

* 	Previous Work/Volunteer Experience;
*	Personal Interests (community involvement, volunteer activities,
	 extra-curricular activities, clubs, hobbies);
* 	Previous international travel experience;
*	Describe important contacts you have had outside your immediate
	 community and what you have learned -consider other ethnic groups, 
	ages, socio-economic backgrounds, community sizes); and * 
	References.

Please include a couple of paragraphs describing what you expect to gain from
the Environmental Youth Exchange program and what you feel you can 
contribute.
