Resource Alert - Information on funding and other resources for non-profit groups. Funding The Urban Issues Program sponsored by the Samuel and Saidye Bronfman Family Foundation supports projects that unite urban conservation with community development. They only offer funding once every three years. The next deadline is March 1, 1999. Successful proposals will be eligible for Foundation support up to $30,000 annually for one to three years. Community groups can apply. Groups must make sure that their proposal involves at least one partner with a current Revenue Canada charitable organization number. The program promotes urban heritage conservation by communities and supports activities to increase: community awareness of the decision-making processes which influence and change urban environments; knowledge of how changes to the physical and natural environments affect social, economic and political development of the community and its environs; community understanding of how social, economic and political changes affect the physical and natural environment; and the citizenry's capability to develop and implement urban conservation policies which result in the future well-being of their communities. In the past they have funded a broad range of activities including community planning processes, alternative transportation programs, green zones, community-based housing, community theater for social change, etc., A call for proposals will be sent out in September. Call the contact below to get yourself on the mailing list to receive a copy. Also ask for a list of past funded projects; this will give you a better idea of the types of projects they have funded. Keep in mind that they do not fund a large number of initiatives. They funded 16 groups in 1993 and 6 in 1996. And I am sure they will receive a lot of applications. However, the potential for $30,000 a year over three years for a community/neighborhood-based project may be well worth the effort. CAP has books we can lend you on grant proposal writing if you are interested.
