Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group (NSPIRG)
Executive Director

nspirg is looking for an Executive Director for a one-year contract
position to start May 18, 1998. The successful candidate must also be
available for a two week training session from May 4 to 14, 1998. The rate
of pay is $10.00 per hour  at 30 hours per week.  Applicants must be
serious in undertaking the May/98-April/99 contract.

nspirg is a student funded and directed non-profit, non-partisan, and
non-governmental organization that focuses on environmental and social
justice issues. We have six working groups: Burma Support Network,
Eco-Action, Economic Justice, Humans Against Homophobia (HAH!), People For
Animal Welfare (PAW), Womyn's Health Issues. We also operate a volunteer
run food cooperative and an organic community garden, Seymour Green.

The Executive Director is responsible for office administration (including
managing nspirg's finances and  conducting various administrative duties);
coordinating  nspirg's activities; assisting with budget planning,
long-term planning and policy development; recruiting volunteers and
overseeing staff; developing and writing grant and employment proposals,
promoting nspirg publications, networking with other community groups.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in social
justice and environmental issues and possess excellent organizational and
coordination skills. She/He will have excellent interpersonal, verbal and
written communication skills and experience in consensus-based
decision-making.  She/He must demonstrate a good understanding of
computers, specifically desk-top publishing, word processing and internet
skills (preferably for Macintosh).  She/He must manage time effectively,
and work independently and responsibly.  Experience working with a
non-profit organization would be an asset.
