Hi Raymond,
Do you have 'delete selected items upon disconnect' (or something
to that effect - every mail reader program has something a bit
different)? This will force deletion of those selected items
otherwise they will remain there until told to delete them. The mail
reader program usually has that option unselected (for safety sake) so
that you don't accidentally delete something you wanted to keep.
