Hi

I've been following the thread on the IP process and some points are
clarification are required.

1) The issue brought forth last year was that the IP process was too
complicated for prospective Information Providers. The process appeared
to be a
barrier to the success of an IP signing up with CCN.

2) It was suggested that prospective IP's couldn't determine what their
cost
(membership, services) would be.

3) It was suggested that many IP's only required an FTP function to
update
their sites. Thus extensive training was unnecessary.

Note: The emphasis was on the difficulties experienced by the
INFORMATION
PROVIDER.

In September an Information Provider Membership and Services fee
schedule was
adopted. In the fall (or there abouts) a FTP process was put in place
so that
those with relatively simple requirements could maintain their sites.

The current 'IP Process' is an initiative of CCN Administration. In
brief, a
new membership and services fee schedule were recently presented to the
board.

What was agreed to, at the board level, was that membership fees and
process be
separated from the user account process, that CCN membership be
consulted on
this change. User account services and fees, as presented, were
approved on an
interim basis, until further consultation with the various CCN
committees could
be pursued.

I wish to emphasis, that the IP Chair (or the IP Committee) has not
mandated or
approved a change in the IP Process that would impact updates to the
various
databases, forms to be processed, account setup procedures or other IP
processes.

Doug McCann
Chair, Information Provider Committee
