Prior to introducing the new welcome page to the general user base we need to ensure that the information which we are presenting is suitable. In review, the welcome page provides a vehicle for messages: 1) from the board 2) from the membership committee 3) from the volunteer committee 4) from the ip committee, and (last but not least) 5) from the userhelp/documentation team ----- With the _exception_ of userhelp/documentation these messages are presented at specified intervals (days or on-line hours) and that ONLY ONE of the board, membership, volunteer, or ip messages are presented during a particular session. ----- USERHELP A tip from userhelp (documentation) is presented every login. The tip is rotated every session and is either a 'New User', 'Intermediate', or 'Advanced' tip depending on the users Lynx 'User Mode' setting. We need a bunch of tips... BOARD The board message will repeat at a specified interval 25 hours during beta testing (every second day), every 7 days in regular use (suggestion). It should be pointed out that the Board message has the highest priority... if the time intervals in use would schedule both board and a volunteer message, only the board message will be presented. It is intended that the board message will be a 'dynamic' document... changing to reflect the information the board wished to communicate to users. The board message is in the form of a html document that may constitute the entire message, or may include links to other documents such as committee reports, meeting minutes, etc. Responsibility for the maintenance of this document lies with the board. The demo document is located at: http://chebucto.ns.ca/Policy/messages/board/notice.html MEMBERSHIP The membership message is designed as a (relatively) static series of messages that address several situations: 1) a 'plea' directed to non-members at a regular interval (15 hours on-line (suggestion)) 2) a link to "g)o status" presented to existing members starting (in regular use) about 3 months before the membership is due to expire (suggestion). In regular use this message would be repeated every 17 day (suggestion). 3) an 'urgent' plea to a member whose membership has expired. Repeated every 7-8 days (suggestion). NOTE: Non-emebers who _are volunteers_ are not presented with the 'plea' described in 1) above. VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE The volunteer function is designed to acknowledge the efforts of volunteers on a regular basis. Team Leaders maintain a list of volunteers who are contributing to the team effort. On a regular basis ( 21 days suggestion) 'registered' volunteers are presented with a message such as... "Chebucto Community Net is possible through the efforts of many volunteers. Your efforts are appreciated!" IP COMMITTEE This feature allows the IP committee to feature an IP. The committee can decide which IP's are featured, when they are rotated etc... we are working on capturing statistics on the number of user the IP is presented to... for possible communication back to the IP. I'll discuss this further with the IP Committee.... david potter
