Hello everyone, I have (finally) updated the Volunteer Committee homepage to flesh out the WebCorps concept. We have volunteers standing by, awaiting work. At your convenience, please take a moment to read the WebCorps documentation at: <http://chebucto.ns.ca/Chebucto/Volunteers/WebCorps.shtml> You may begin referring dead or dying IPs in your subject areas to this page (or to me directly via the <ccn-volunteers-owner@chebucto.ns.ca> address) and we'll hook them up with volunteers (for a fee) to begin the renovation / resuscitation process. In the spirit of getting things ship-shape, I am also proposing : The creation of Subject-area mailing lists. e.g. <health@chebucto.ns.ca> <community@chebucto.ns.ca> <technology@chebucto.ns.ca> <culture@chebucto.ns.ca> <religion@chebucto.ns.ca <etc.> Why? For example, <community@chebucto.ns.ca> would be exclusively used by those persons (whether they are CCN accounts or not) who are listed in our IPDB/NameDB as webmasters / IPE1s for the organizations under each thematic area. This gives each area editor the ability to communicate more easily and interactively with the IPs in his/her area as a whole, rather than trying to reach them all individually. I have spent considerable time creating a mail-list in Eudora of currently registered IP editors through the grunt work of scavenging through the IPDB, cross-referenced to a printout of the Community Support subdirectory. It's gotta be easier to do than that - and should be easier, right "out of the box". So let's build it into Chebucto's administrative toolkit. Those Area Editors who feel it would be useful to have these lists created, please submit your requests to David Potter directly (I believe he's the designated list-creation guru here?). Given the state of the IPDB at the moment, it would be unfair (unwise) to ask David to pre-create these lists with the IPs from each area already subscribed. You'll have to do the legwork of identifying the IPs in your area, contacting each and confirming that they are indeed the registered IPE1s, and then subscribing them to the list (of which you will be listowner). If someone has a time-saving idea, please do share it with the rest of us! Again, this is merely a suggestion. I just want to keep you informed of what's happening in my area. Regards, Mark.
