Hi everyone, After some considerable discussions at both the committee, board level and within the office, we will be establishing a new process for signing up groups and organizations who want to access Chebucto services and/or host their web site at Chebucto Community Net. This process is intended to both simplify and speed up the process whereby organizations can register and access our services. For example, this week we expect a number of volunteer groups, supported by funding from the VolNet program, will be requesting access and website support from Chebucto. We want to ensure an efficient process that can allow these groups to connect quickly and allow them to set-up space for a website within the day that they register with us. We now have a CD ready which will ensure ease of configuration for online access for both groups and individuals who want to access Chebucto's services. Later this week we will have a new homepage website operating and we invite your feedback to improve its interface and navigation ability. The current website will continue to be available to those who feel more comfortable with it, but links for IP sign-up will be redirected to the new registration process. The URLs for the new group agreement and application form can be found at: www.chebucto.ns.ca/Services/n_agree.htm. The URL for the new fee structure for non-profit and profit groups and the new homepage will be up later this evening. The group applicant will be asked to print the application form off and fax it to the office as part of their registration process. As you will notice on the application form, we will also be asking the applicant to identify a desired subject index listing in order that we can identify where they could be located within our current information directory. The office would than notify the relevant Editor in order that the Editor can welcome the group and be of any assistance. All groups will also be listed alphabetically and eventually we hope to have a more efficient search engine which will allow easier access to groups and other relevant information at Chebucto's site, as well as links to other relevant community-based sites in the HRM. The current IP training process will no longer be compulsory for groups when they request services from Chebucto. With further discussions with the IP and IPE groups we will determine how best to address current online training and support needs to our groups and organizations - for that matter, to individuals as well :) We will soon be arranging a planning session with ccn-tech, ccn-ip and ipe to map out the further technical requirements and content management issues required in these new changes. Following this, we will determine what resources we have in-house to accomplish various tasks in redirecting links that we have from the IP area to the new site as well as working with the Editors in determining further ways to improve upon Chebucto's content management delivery. The administration of our current IP account will be handled as it currently is for the time-being. We will be approaching all current IP accounts for which we have very poor administrative records (or none) and requesting a renewal fee (based on the new structure) for Chebucto services as of June 30th. This will take into account their current VDNs (if they have one), the amount of MEG space they are using, extra email addressed, majordomo support services, etc. Once renewed, these IP accounts will be administered and monitored by the office under this new process. Any new group account requests will be administered through the office as of now. I appreciate everyone's assistance in this new process. If you have any questions or need for further clarification, contact me via: office@chebucto.ns.ca Cheers, Leo ___________________________ Leo J.
