Since February 1 some 1600+ people have hit the Beacon front page with 13% doing it with graphics browsers (a gain of about 1% per issue - people are hitting our website more with PPP) and around 5% of them read the news page. For more exposure (it is after all one of the best community net newsletters on the web - check it out for yourself if you doubt this - and THE best in Canada, bar none. Our writers have been doing an excellent job.), one thing could be for the long overdue home page overhaul to use a graphic for the Beacon link (available upon request). This would make it stand out a little for someone who casually stumbles across our home page. The recent Y2K press release was a start - at least the rest of Halifax media know we're here now. Anything more has to come from CCN - like the communications committee, I don't work in a vacuum (but it sure feels like it sometimes) and I can't help to publicize initiatives that aren't happening. I can't update a news page with news if no one is doing anything. There is a particular vacuum WRT IP news - there must be all kinds of activity in the IP directories, the daily hits log bears this out, but I don't hear of any of it so it doesn't go into the Beacon.
