Hi Folks!

Below is the draft text of a note I propose to send out to the all-ips
list advertising the CCN Featured IP link. Let me know if you have and
changes, additions, suggestions, etc.

In terms of process I basically don't plan to editorialize at all in
selecting featured IPs. Anyone can nominate themselves and if they
minimally qualify they are in. I'll just keep track of the timetabling. I
propose to give every IP a minimum of 2 weeks in the rotation, possibly a
week or so longer depending on how busy our schedule is/becomes.

I will also shortly create a draft Featured IP icon which recipients can
add to their home pages to designate that they have received this award.
I'll create code that links it back to the current Featured IP page.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers!

Chris

Greetings!

By now all of you have noticed a number of recent changes to the CCN
Interface, one of the most prominent being the Welcome Page that you
arrive at after logging into the CCN. One feature of this page is a
rotating slot which we call the "Featured Information Provider".

Thus far we have featured the Nova Scotia-Cuba Association, Law Reform
Commission of Nova Scotia, & Halifax Area Personal Computer Society.

The intention of this feature of the Welcome Page is to introduce CCN
users to our constellation of Information Provider organizations. Links to
the Featured IP appear on a rotating basis for 2-3 weeks on the Welcome
Page of every CCN user logging into their account. Thus far statistics
indicate that it is very effective in bringing additional attention to a
site. For instance, during the time the Law Reform Commission was a
featured IP it's URL hits more than doubled (from 4294 to 8644 /month).

We want to use this slot to draw attention to new sites, sites that have
recently added features or sections, have upgraded their appearance or
functioning, have some particularly noteworthy event in the offing, etc.

If you feel your site is noteworthy in any of these respects we invite you
to submit your site as a potential Featured IP.

If selected you need to write a 2-3 paragraph blurb about your site (in
HTML). Visit the current Featured IP page:

Linkname: Featured Information Provider
URL: http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Policy/messages/ip/docs-html/featured.html

For an example.

If selected you will also receive an icon which designates your site as a
"CCN Featured Information Provider" which you can, at your discretion,
install on your site designating it as a recipient of this award.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers!
