Hi Jeff...

CSuite has built lots of the IP and support systems around mail aliases,
and we use httpd to provide custom name services and htaccess to provide
security that's not usually found on other systems... we could begin the
process of severing the tight binding between CSuite and some of these
systems but if I thought it were half as easy as you we wouldn't be having
this discussion... ;-)

You're suggestions would certainly be a 'cleaner' way of doing the
install/upgrade but that in itself is not an 'all compelling' argument.
I've already indicated... I agree that in many ways it would be much
easier.

However there's a lot of underlying CSuite design that is dependent on
our modification of some basic systems. Many of these design elements
are important because they're designed to support a community network
using volunteers who are not trained/qualified as system administrators.

CSuite is definitely not just another single purpose application.

This suggestion/discussion has enough merit that perhaps we need a test
to answer some of these questions. Do a CSuite install, not install httpd and
see what breaks and what we'd have to do to fix it... and we can't half
do this, every CSuite install has to be considered to be a production
machine. My guess is that the shine would wear off this idea but... you'd
learn quite a bit about how CSuite is put together... ;-)

...and if my guess is wrong we move on to the mailer... ;-)
