I am a new list subscriber, so forgive me if my questions have been answered before. I am the part time project manager for a communities connect project in Nelson BC. Our primary goal is to create a web site with links to other Nelson area non profit web sites and facilitate the creation of new web sites for local non profit groups. The gateway page of the Nelson Community Connect Network will start by linking to existing sites like the extensive City of Nelson site, the Nelson Municipal Library site and others. Groups will be offered assistance in designing a site, training in maintaining it as well as an inexpensive ongoing host. We may also want to be able to offer mail service and maybe newsgroups. We are looking into the feasibility of having our own server with the possibility of using Linux/Chebucto. I am wondering about a ballpark estimate of installation time for a very computer/web literate (but with no real Unix experience) to install the software. I'd also be interested in what kind of time factor would be involved in ongoing maintenace. Feel free to make any other suggestions of comments too.
