Rencontre West to Dog Cove in Bay de Vieux;
We pass up a visit to Francois in our haste to get to the west. |
Beach and stream exploration took place first thing on Thursday, August 3rd. The view out past the barrasway is the open entrance to Rencontre Bay with the settlement on that low darker body of land. |
John hiked up the stream and discovered some fine bathing pools as well as a plentiful number of blackflies, which are not visible in this Rousseau-like view of the stream. |
The schooner rests easy at her mooring on this calm morning with Rencontre Bay stretching off to the north beyond. |
During the day we alternately sailed and motored using the fitful SE breeze when we could. |
Passing by Grey River we pushed on to Bay de Vieux and anchored in Dog Cove by 1830. Taking the dinghy toward the inviting beach, we were able to row upstream a short way before the stream shoaled up enough to become impassible for the boat. We observed grave markers up on the grass knoll but blackflies put any thoughts of an extended reconnaissance out of our minds. |
