Closed Canadian Parks

* Amusement Parks, Beaches *
and Pleasure Gardens
of Canada's Past

Please Note:
The CEC has disbanded.
Closed Canadian Parks is now rarely being updated;
otherwise is being left as-is for historical purposes

You are about to explore the outdoor pleasure
areas of Canada's past. There are very few
documentaries, books, and newspaper
articles available on this subject
when compared to the number
for similar areas in Great
Britain, United States
and elsewhere.

In Canada, amusement information is typically
part of a larger book or documentary on a
topic such as town history. Except for a few
dedicated sources, amusements detail,
especially for rides, is quite scarce.

This portion of the CEC website improves upon
that through research of Books, Video and Film,
Newspaper Articles and Ads, Photographs,
Postcards, and Personal Recollections

Old postcards are reproduced, and generous
submitters share personal photographs along
with comments and recollections. All instill into
the reader how these areas affected those
that experienced them, and how the effects
lasted long after the pleasure gardens, parks,
and beaches closed their gates forever.

Thank-Yous

    Major gratitude goes to all submitters for their unselfish sharing of information, photos and image scans, and personal stories. A separate page dedicated to these persons could have been created, but the list would be so long that few would read it.

    It was decided instead to incorporate their names into the individual park narratives so that readers could more accurately associate individual contributions. In addition, this method better shows that what is presented at CCP is the work of many, many persons.

    First, a huge thankyou to Tim Covell for usage of his Canadian park and coaster research information that appears on this website. I am also grateful for a generous donation in that Tim's materials now reside in the CEC archives.

    I thank Chris LeReau, of the now-closed InCoasterPaedia website, for his input and the coaster information used throughout these articles. He in turn wishes to credit author Richard Munch of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. for much of his information.

    Thanks also to sitemaster Joel Styer, of the Defunct Parks website (now closed), for his contributions to Closed Canadian Parks.
