The Old Manse in Concord, MA. (photo by Bill Montague). Built in 1770 by his grandfather, the Reverend William Emerson, this building has quite a history. It is very close to the North Bridge, where was fired "the shot heard 'round the world." It is here that Emerson wrote his first essay "Nature." Nathaniel Hawthorne and his wife lived here just after they were married.
Open to the public mid-April through October 31
Monday - Saturday, 10AM to 5PM
Sundays and Holidays 1PM to 5PM
Guided tours, Gift shop, Admission fee. Group discounts available.
