Emerson House, in Concord, MA. The Old Manse in Concord, MA. (photo by Bill Montague). Built in 1770 by his grandfather, the Reverend William Emerson, this building has quite a history. It is very close to the North Bridge, where was fired "the shot heard 'round the world." It is here that Emerson wrote his first essay "Nature." Nathaniel Hawthorne and his wife lived here just after they were married.
