The Fletchers followed the clan for whom they made arrows.
The Fletchers were associated with Clan Campbell
and with Clan Stewart in Argyll.
In Perthshire, Clan Fletcher associated with Clan MacGregor.
They saved Rob Roy's life on one occasion when
he was disabled by a dragoon.
The Fletchers recovered cattle stolen by Clan MacDonald in
1497, for which Clan Stewart of Appin promised to assist
them in times of difficulty.
A local saying told: "It was Clan Fletcher that raised the first
smoke to boil water on Orchy." About 1600, they entered into a
bond with the Campbells of Glenorchy.
