Symbols of Clan Anderson
Anderson is a common surname in the Lowlands of Scotland;
in the Scottish Highlands, it is rendered as MacAndrew.
Both surnames indictate "son of Andrew."
Robert Bain indicates that Clan MacAndrew are regarded a sept of
Clan Chattan, and have been associated
with that Confederation of Clans from the beginning of the 15th century.
Traditionally some MacAndrews are associated with the MacDonells
of Glengarry and wear their tartan.
